We're finally starting to pick our heads up and prepare to emerge from private beta with new applications, a new polished site with some incredible innovations and completion of our first dedicated Aviary tutorial book, by our very own Meowza! But in the mean time, some quick news updates:
Aviary in the New Yorker
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to engage in a witty riposte with the infamous New Yorker magazine. Barak Obama may hate us now, but at least my mom is proud.
Aviary toolbar
If you'd like to help alpha test the new Aviary Firefox extension that opens up a whole range of functionality into the Aviary suite that isn't available by default in Flash, please indicate so in the comments below.
We're adding:
- screenshot grabbing (full and partial)
- right-click image copying and editing from any website
- access to the binary data on your computer clipboard
- quick searching Aviary and stock photo databases
- tablet pressure sensitivity
- quick launching applications
- and more!![]()

Thanks for the suggestion Harry. It does extend the functionality of Flash Player and also the Firefox web browser.

Welcome to the Aviary Amiee and Mo. I know you two will be doing good things for the site. Love the toolbar, it is going to be so useful when it all comes together. I already find myself using the right-click menu a ton. BTW This post isn't showing up on the home page. I found it through my feed reader.

I haven't had a chance to play with the Space Navigator yet, but it's compatible with a ton of 3D applications, including 3ds Max, Maya, Blender, DAZ, Sketchup and (recently) Second Life. It really looks incredible for better navigation and building in a 3D environment and I've heard a lot of positive feedback from people using it. I'd love to get it tied in to Aviary.

The Aviary extension seems pretty cool. It seems like with this, the usability could be greatly expanded. I would like to help test the new A.viary Firefox extension.

The toolbar sounds like a great idea. I'd really like to help to test it, as A.viary is already such a great site, that just keep getting better.

The toolbar sounds like great overall implementation of Aviary. I'd like to test in its alpha stage. It's exciting to think about the growing functionality within the web browser.

I would like to alpha test the toolbar (for Firefox in vista). Sounds like it'll be a fundamental feature for future generations of aviary users... And, welcome Aimee and Mo! It's great to have you guys. Thanks everyone for Aviary!

I'd love to test the toolbar - it sounds really cool. Really happy to see Aviary 'emerge' from its beta - can't wait for the new apps! Using Firefox 3 on XP if you need to know that.

Do I need to know anything, like Flash, to test? If not, I'd love to try it. I looks like tons of useful fun.

That toolbar sounds real cool. Is it like an extension to the Flash Player? I'm especially interested in using Flex with more devices, such as what you described with the tablet pressure-sensitivity feature. Could you also do me a favor and implement support for the SpaceNavigator from 3DConnexion (if you haven't already)? Made by Logitech, it is basically a joystick that simultaneously senses 6 directions of movement: Rotation x,y,z and movement x,y,z. It is so cool, but right now Google Earth is the only app I have that supports it. Thanks!
