Capture any webpage: Just add Aviary.com/ in front of the URL!

By Avi Muchnick on June 29, 2009 | 37 comments

Aviary has just launched it's easiest feature yet!

You can capture any webpage at all, from any browser, by simply putting Aviary.com/ in front of the URL!

For example, say you want to capture Google's homepage:
Just change http://www.google.com to Aviary.com/http://google.com.

Dead. Simple.

After capturing the page, you can edit it, add simple markup to it and save it to your desktop (or host it online with a single click). It should work on almost any public page on the Internet, with any browser. It can even capture Flash!

If you want additional options, for example to capture a page at different resolutions or to only capture a portion of the page click Screen Capture on Aviary's homepage or just visit:

http://aviary.com/launch/talon

Capture Options Available:

* Choose different screen resolutions
* Region to capture
* Quality / Speed settings.
* Multiple Browsers / Operating Systems (coming soon)

And of course, for even more powerful screen capture options (including capturing private pages and instant capture), please install our Firefox addon.

Cool indeed! But really, screen capture using IE7? C'mon, why not a Gecko or Webkit-based browser? http://aviary.com/http://www.useragentstring.com/

So cool. What else can I say.

Posted by Jep on 2009-06-29 15:17:55

Why isn't it [ Aviary.com/talon/http://google.com ] for Google.com

Posted by Avi Muchnick on 2009-06-29 15:19:04

Marcos, enabling multiple browsers is our natural next step.

Talon for Google Chrome? Ehn? Ehn?

Posted by Avi Muchnick on 2009-06-29 19:46:00

Jason, you can simulate some of the functionality of Talon by dragging the bookmarklet on this page: http://aviary.com/launch/talon

@Marcos: High five for the link. After seeing the toolbar popup and button style, I thought the same thing, but you beat me to it. @Avi does this mean you're hosted on a Win 03 server?

Posted by Avi Muchnick on 2009-06-30 19:16:34

Tyler, the particular process that you're seeing is a Win2003 server. We have others as well/

Do you plan a twitter integration to easily share image on twitter ? I mean, it could be so great, to take a capture with the firefox extension, then host on Aviary and then share on twitter :-)

Posted by Avi Muchnick on 2009-07-01 10:45:05

j0k3r, we do have that ability already :) Just click on the Save and Host it on Aviary, and then after the save comples, click the Twitter icon to post it right to Twitter.

Posted by zuibos on 2009-07-01 10:55:11

When I saved the captured web on to my desktop I was not able to reopen it due to the fact that while saving there were no options on what format to save it in. How do you overcome this issue.

Posted by j0k3r on 2009-07-01 11:59:58

Glad to hear that ! But, well, I can't find the twitter icon :-/

Posted by Avi Muchnick on 2009-07-01 15:45:23

zuibos: Just add the extension when you type the name (for example whatever.PNG). We'll fix that though so it does it automatically. j0k3r here: http://rookery3.aviary.com/storagev12/1655500/1655912_04a3.png

Okay ! I found it, thx Avi ! But, in fact, I'm talking about the firefox extension and the ability to take part of webpage and then share it to twitter. In this way, there is no share option. Maybe I have to talk about this point in the forum instead in this blog post, no?

This tool does not support foreign languages yet. I tried to do a screen capture of a Chinese webpage, but I could only see boxes or question marks on the page. Hopefully Aviary will support Chinese soon!

2. Check out insurance programs available through self-employment organisations or the local Chamber of Commerce.

3. Contact the insurance company that provides your home owner's or rental policy insurance to determine the riders and additions you need to insure your home-office property.

4. Investigate business interruption insurance, which reimburses you if you are suddenly unable to conduct your business.

I found your post really interesting. I found Internet marketing a really a great way of promoting a website. I found good results when I started internet marketing my website.

I would like to comment that Webpages may be retrieved from a local computer or from a remote web server. The web server may restrict access only to a private network, e.g. a corporate intranet, or it may publish pages on the World Wide Web. Webpages are requested and served from web servers using Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

I would comment that Creating pages for the Internet takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it's a lot of fun. The first step is to decide what you want to publish on your Web page. Maybe you want to publish an original story you've written, share reviews of books you've read, or create an electronic magazine related to one of your hobbies.

That's interesting. I will definitely try on my twitter account and the step by step instruction is really good.
