It's the first pro editor ;) there has been a demo of an online vector-editor before: http://blog.tiagocardoso.eu/mainada/comics-sketch/2008/11/12/flash-svg-editor-live-demo/ Nevertheless, this is a finish product and looks nice.

This is amazing stuff. I never thought I would see a flash program that could do anything like this. Looking forward to your 3D modeler as well!

Posted by Pliggs on 2009-02-10 09:23:30

I signed up for Aviary last week, looking forward to trying this stuff out.

Dope. I'll be creating some stuff for www.defyantalliance.com with it! Thanks guys.

Posted by Debunker on 2009-02-11 10:43:25

Web-based? Nope... It's a Flash-based application.
A web-based application use only HTML and JavaScript. No binary codes whatsoever.

This is so rad and bad.... THX a mil, max plus bro!

As usually, a great post with a great collection! Congratulations !

And who retains ownership of anything created by these tools? I seem to remember Adobe having an online photo-editing app but anything created with it became their property.

Posted by Avi Muchnick on 2009-02-12 12:48:29

Mark, in our terms of service we explain this clearly. The artists own everything they create using our tools. We can feature public images in a way that publicizes Aviary (for example, in blog posts), but we do not have any ownership rights in anything created on Aviary. http://aviary.com/terms

This looks like a great tool, and I definitely plan on giving it a test run over the weekend!

your apps are the best WebApp

I wish you all the best, and hope you reap the reward for all your hard work.. I cannot help think that the 'Webtop' is a flawed idea, that 'users' will not appreciate the concept as much as 'Web Developers,' who have a vested interest in creating ever new stuff. For which they should, of course, be applauded and rewarded. From a user's perspective however, I would not be content having to rely on an Internet connection to be able to use my computer for what i like best: drawing. So as I HAVE to have my own software - and then learn it thoroughly, I would not voluntarily submit myself to learning a whole new GUI, life being so short. However, for all of you brave souls pushing back the envelope of ignorance and expanding the versatility of this utterly incredible (and by now SO taken for granted!) internet.

Posted by raven on 2009-02-16 20:46:48

I tried to use Raven but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with a slow satellite internet connection. It never finishes loading the pear.egg file. bummer.

Posted by Pete Mc on 2009-02-16 21:29:07

First of all, total respect for getting a tool like this together, it is a very impressive feat in it's own right. That said, and having tried it, I'm left wondering who the target audience is. The professional will have a desktop tool with more features (and better performance), and the amateur, well Raven isn't the instant root to great results, you need to be an artist to make anything that looks decent. There may be a practical use, there may be an audience, I'm struggling to see it from my first glance. A feature that might bring it from curiosity to "useful vector tool" would be the ability to upload a photo, or enter URL, and get a vectorized version of it. That *should* be possible based on what I know of the bitmapData tools and your quite obvious mastery of vectors... just an idea!

Brilliant! Commented on it (in German) on my blog: http://www.edaktik.de/2009/02/grafikarbeiten-online-erstellen/

Posted by SirHinge on 2009-02-20 06:21:05

It is a nice flash application, but no, it is not web based. It requires Flash. That means several of my machines won't run it, as they don't have Flash. Yes, Syringe, that means that it's misclassified: those folks who have machines without flash (such as people who work in offices where they can't install software on their machines) can't run it. It's too bad, I've seen something very similar in JAVASCRIPT recently - tho not 100% vector. I must ask - are the egg files python eggs? Or were you not aware that the python language distributes executables as eggs?

Posted by Steve on 2009-02-23 20:09:24

I believe the usefulness will be with machines that lack the hardware to store/run the large professional apps that this program is made to replace. It would be great if used in conjunction with a laptop and a wireless connection while away from the office. Imagine being able to use more of your precious hdd space on actual project files and not on the excessively huge programs used by todays workstations to produce the same images.

Has come on your resource and it very like me. I will recommend now to its all the friends who as well as I take a great interest in vector images. Thanks you huge that you are:) Before I sat on free vectors and templates resource boxofpix.com rather quite good and original resource which quickly develops. But now I will use also your base though and it I will not refuse.

Posted by Leelo on 2009-06-20 00:42:16

A complete Vector editing program that is web-only based is at DoInk.com. It's Java based. No Flash required - but exports SWF files for your use. And it's animation. DoInk.com (I believe) was the first totally online Vector editing program. It was released sometime in 2008. Correct me if I am wrong.
